Create and manage fields
Find the built-in fields, add your own, and set your default currency.
Fields hold the details on your records. Ahoy calls them properties. Every object type comes with built-in properties, and account admins can add custom ones.
Before you begin
- Permissions. Only admins can create, edit, or delete properties.
- Check what exists first. Built-in properties cover the common cases, and two properties for the same thing are hard to untangle later.
See every field on an object
- Go to Settings → CRM → Objects & Fields.
- Choose an object type from the tabs, such as contacts, companies, or deals.
Your custom properties are listed first. The Built-in properties card below lists everything Ahoy ships for that object type. Built-in properties can't be edited or deleted.
Create a property
- Click Create property.
- Enter a Label. This is the name your team sees.
- Add a Description if it helps explain what belongs in the field.
- Choose a Field Type, such as text, number, date, or select.
- For a select field, add the Options people can choose from. Drag to reorder them.
- Set a Default Value if you want one.
- Turn on Require unique values if every record must have a different value.
- Save the property.
TWO CHOICES ARE PERMANENT
You can't change the field type or the unique-values setting after a property is created. To change either, create a new property.
Edit or delete a property
- Edit. Open the property from the list. You can change its label, description, and options.
- Delete. Type DELETE to confirm. Deleting hides the property but preserves the existing data. Filters or automations that use the field stop matching.
Set your default currency
- Go to Settings → Workspace → General.
- Choose a Default currency.
Only admins can change it. Existing deals aren't affected, so amounts you've already entered keep their currency.
Good to know
- Fields on deal cards. To choose which fields show on a card in the Board view, go to Settings → CRM → Pipelines, edit the pipeline, and open the Card Layout tab.
- Fields during import. You can create a property in the import mapping step when a column has no match.
- Unique properties and imports. A property that requires unique values can be used to match records in an import. See How import matching works.
- Record layouts. If your workspace has layout customization, you'll find it on the same page. Choose Customize layout for an object type, or Reset to default.
